2024: Challenging our perspectives: Focus on Eastern Europe

Friday 31st May – Sunday 2nd June 2024 at Cliff College, Calver, Hope Valley, Sheffield S32 3XG

Join us for a face to face conference at our usual conference time but at a new venue. There will be the opportunity to hear interesting and challenging speakers, meet new people, join workshops and find our more about the world church.

Keynote speakers will be:

Dr Meeli Tankler who has been a lecturer of pastoral care, leadership and spiritual formation for over 20 years. From 2009-2018 she was Principal of the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary in Tallinn which provides theological education for clergy and lay leaders from several Eastern Europe countries. Her most recent experience as a coordinator of Methodist e-academy has acquainted her with ministry in various European contexts. She has been active over many years in women’s ministry (including her role as Europe Continental Area President in the World Federation of Methodist and United Church Women), in the European Methodist Council, and she is currently a member of the Northern Europe and Eurasia Central Conference Council task group focusing on education.

Rev Dr Üllas Tankler became pastor in the Estonia Methodist Church in 1983. In addition to his pastoral ministry he has been lecturer of church leadership, homiletics and mission theology in various schools, seminaries and training events. Since 2005 Üllas has been working with the United Methodist mission agency General Board of Global Ministries. His responsibilities include ecumenical relationships and connecting the Methodist church missionally in the region that covers Europe, Eurasia and North Africa.

2022: The World is My Parish – Global Methodism Our Future online conference and AGM

Keynote address by Bishop Ivan Abrahams. Bishop Ivan Abrahams is the General Secretary of the World Methodist Council. He has served as Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of South Africa. Bishop Ivan has provided prophetic leadership and direction. He is a renowned ecumenist and advocate for social justice.

MWM AGM will take place 12.30-13.00.

 

2021: Celebrating Diversity: Mission together in the global village

5th June 2021 Online conference

We are made in the image of God, with all our incredible diversity. Rather than fragmentation, this gives us the opportunity to celebrate and interact with each other to create a rich and immense collective body of Christ.

Speakers include: British Methodist theologians Prof Anthony Reddie, Rev’d Prof Frances Young and Rev’d Dr Inderjit Bhogal.

2019: China’s Mission to the World

The growth of Christianity has been strikingly strong in recent years. What has led to that situation? What are the strategies of Chinese Christianity? What can it teach us?

  • Join this weekend to meet, experience and learn from people who know this fascinating and important country
  • Meet members of the Chinese congregations in Britain including Revd Kan Yu and enjoy a cultural evening
  • Experience reflective worship led by Christine Elliott (CTBI China Forum) and Revd Dr Barbara Glasson (President Designate Methodist Church in Britain)
  • Learn about history, politics, culture and faith from experts including Dr Alexander Chow of Edinburgh University,  Rev’d Dr Lo Lung-Kwong, recently retired from the School of Divinity,  Chinese University of Hong Kong, and others.
